Groceries:
There is one main supermarket on the Island. Run by Islanders Board (Ibis supermarket) in town about 40 walk. However there is also a couple of small grocery shops and a butcher also in town. About a 30 walk from the facility. Suggest you shop around as the groceries are very expensive on the Island.
There is also a small grocery shop Run buy Islanders Board 10 min walk from facility. Opening times vary.
Eating out:
This is not a dry Island and there are a couple of hotels in town, and an RSL. There are also a couple of take away shops in town. They all serve cooked meals.
Transport:
There is NO bus service on the Island however there are taxi services on the Island. NOTE: be careful which one you choose, as some services charge a timed rate and this can be expensive. Only one taxi service charges a flat fee of $10 each way to your destination. I recommend using this one, because even if you are traveling with other people it is still only a flat fee of $10 for the group as long as you are all getting on and off at the same place. Apart from leg power these are the only way of getting around the Island.
Mobile service:
Telstra is the ONLY mobile carrier on the Island, SO if you are with another mobile carrier then, either change to Telstra or get a pre-paid “Telstra” sim card before you go. NOTE: Even though Telstra is the only carrier, coverage is not very good on some parts of the Island but it is your only choice.
